FAQs
Is HomeBridge operating today?
No. Our two social enterprises, HomeBridge Café and HomeBridge Electronics Recycling are in the start-up process now. We are sourcing locations for both and actively seeking companies to participate in the Recycling business as anchor customers. The most important contribution HomeBridge will make to men and women in reentry is providing paid employment for all apprentices. Before we open the doors of HomeBridge, we want to have the businesses up and running.
When do you think HomeBridge will be open?
Our goal is to be operational late this year. We will continue to provide updates on this website so stay tuned.
If you are running businesses that are generating revenue, why do you need donations?
The primary mission of HomeBridge is to restore people to themselves, their families, and their communities. The donations will provide apprentices with access to housing, transportation, education, and treatment during their 18-month program – key steps to achieving our mission. Additionally, during the last six months of the program, apprentices will receive training in higher skilled and paying jobs as well as placement services to secure long-term employment. The apprentices will graduate from the program ready to sustain themselves and family. The businesses alone should be self-sustaining however the additional services will rely on the support of generous donors.
Who can be an apprentice at HomeBridge?
Apprentices will be women and men who have systemic barriers to employment due to incarceration and/or gang related activities. We will work with other reentry agencies in Bridgeport as well as the Department of Corrections (DOC) to source our apprentices.
Is HomeBridge a 501(c)(3) organization? Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. HomeBridge will be operating under the Fiscal Sponsorship of RYASAP, a 501(c)(3) organization, based in Bridgeport. www.ryasap.org. Donations made to RYASAP earmarked for HomeBridge will be tax deductible. RYASAP will provide HomeBridge with administrative support in finance, human resources, benefits, etc. to help HomeBridge start up faster with more of your donations supporting this needed mission. HomeBridge will, at the proper time, become a stand-alone 501(c)(3).
